What Is A Successful Blog?

What Is A Successful Blog?

Undoubtedly we come to the question… “Well but… What is a successful Blog?”. And for me, it’s something like this:

  1. That it has the capacity to reach tens of thousands of people monthly.
  2. That it contributes to the lives of those who read it in a positive way.
  3. To be found when people search on Google or similar.
  4. That those who read it want to come back, and also recommend it to their friends.
  5. That the number of visits (traffic) is always increasing.
  6. That [possibly] generates monetary income at some point.
  7. That is mentioned by other bloggers in the community (blogosphere).
  8. That your articles or content in general are shared throughout the Internet.

The Most Important Recommendation

Before you start writing, before you even sit on a computer. The best thing you could recommend to a novice blogger is very simple:

Focus On Providing Value To The World.

You can forget everything else. You can forget the positioning. You can forget the subscribers. You can forget the aesthetics of the site. You can forget almost any other aspect, but if you really give value to the world, and those who visit you consider your content as valuable, success is guaranteed.

This does not mean that we are not going to use other tools and principles to amplify the effect of our added value, but I do want to emphasize that the most important thing about a blog is that people consider it useful for their lives.

This means then that at least to start, we must have some knowledge enough to write about 10 to 20 articles, this should not be too difficult. And then we move on to the first concrete recommendation.

Selecting a Niche or Target Audience

Blogs that deal with all kinds of varied topics often have problems positioning themselves and generate remembrance in people. The only sites that manage to position themselves without a specific theme are news sites.

The first thing you will have to do then, is to select a certain type of people to whom you are going to write. People who have a need in general, and that with your knowledge you can begin to give a light to that need.

Basically blogging is about giving a solution to those who need it most.

Many create a blog based on the most profitable niche. Although in advertising there are certain niches that are more profitable than others, I would recommend not writing about anything that you are not passionate about.

A blog is a VERY long term project, and it should be something we feel completely comfortable with for 2 years later to keep writing and publishing new content. Unless, of course, it is a blog that covers a certain limited subject matter (such as a 60-day project, where each day is a post, and at the end is delivered conclusions … or something similar).

Selecting A Good Design (Or Creating It)

People from all over the world will eventually come to our site. And they will have the opportunity to observe everything. Possibly based on what they see, they will decide to leave or stay.

So one thing I would recommend is to look for a good design for the blog, which has not been widely used by other sites. Or as far as possible create your own.

Creating a design however, requires concepts of programming and graphic design.

Another option is to buy a design (an excellent site for this is ThemeForest) and finally one less used is to request the creation of a custom design by a company. Costs can range from $100 to $5,000, depending on the requirements.

In any case, the important thing is simply that the person feels comfortable entering the blog, that they find it easy to read and above all that the contents and distributions are ordered enough so that the person can find what they need without looking too much.

Important to highlight: Reading should be very comfortable. Try to avoid very small or very large letters, and too contrasting colors that may tire a little sight.
